PDO Threads are an aesthetic devices used to lift your face without having a surgical face lift.
PDO threads have rapidly become a popular minimally invasive alternative to surgical facelift procedures and have given rise to the emerging cat eye, V-line, and snatched jawline trends.
The treatment is known as a Thread Lift.
If you have mild to moderate sagging skin around your neck, cheeks and jowls then a PDO Thread Lift may be ideal for you.
PDO Threads can treat:
- Sagging Forehead and Droopy Eyebrows
- Sagging Eyelid or Cat Eye Look
- Rejuvenating and Lifting Mid-face
- Softening The Nasolabial Folds
- Sagging Jowls
- Minimising Double Chin or Neck
- Sagging and Wrinkled Neck
HOW DOES IT WORK?
During the procedure, the ‘threads’ are inserted under the surface of the skin into the sub-dermis.
These tiny threads, which have tiny barbs, anchor to the skin, keeping it in place as the threads are lifted, to create a smoother and tighter appearance.
Made from PDO (Polydioxanone), the threads also stimulate a collagen production response over time to add further firmness.
Lifting and tightening your face gives the skin back its strength and elasticity and provides you with a noticeably younger-looking appearance
THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF THREADS:
- Mono Threads - are smooth threads without barbs. Between 10-20 of these threads can be inserted into the skin to help encourage skin tightening and rejuvenation. Mono threads however, are said to tighten the skin but not significantly lift it which is why they are typically combined with cog threads for more lifting effect.
- Cog Threads - like mono threads are also barbed however, from the underside of the skin. These barbs form a structure which lifts the sagging tissue. Unlike mono threads, cog threads do not need anchoring points and so are easier to target certain areas. This type of treatment is said to be the most effective non surgical treatment for face lifting.
- Screw Threads - usually consist of one or two threads intertwined together around the inserting needle. Screw thread has a great effect on giving volume effect on sunken area of the skin.

What to expect after your treatment
A thread lift is a suspension suture used to lift, tighten and redefine the face. It gives an immediate discreet lifting effect. PDO mono threads are used to rejuvenate the skin and stimulate collagen, they do not lift the skin.
The suture is made from PDO which is absorbed by the body and stimulates the generation of collagen to maintain the lift or rejuvenate the skin.
Results typically last up to 6 months. Results improve with time due to collagen stimulation. As per the consent process, results are variable and dependent on multiple client factors, particularly pre-treatment skin condition. Combination treatments with other non-surgical modalities are recommended.
After treatment, swelling and bruising may occur, which can last 5-10 days.
Sometimes a slight puckering or a dimpling of the skin may appear at the insertion points of the suture, which normally disappear between 2 and 4 weeks after treatment.
Post-treatment discomfort, swelling, redness, bruising, and discolouration may occur. These are common and normal side effects and typically resolve in a few days. Strict adherence to aftercare will help to minimise these side effects.
Immediate aftercare – What to do at home
- Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 48 hours.
- In the event of discomfort, take analgesia e.g. paracetamol. Discomfort is normal after a thread lift, there may be residual tenderness for up to 4 weeks post-treatment.
- To prevent the risk of infection, avoid touching the treated area with your fingers.
- Mineral make-up may be gently applied after 24 hours using clean brushes or sponges.
- Sleep face up, elevated on pillows for 7 nights minimum, preferably 2 weeks.
- Wash and pat dry your face gently without rubbing for 5 days. Do not use active ingredients in your skincare for 5 days.
- Avoid shaving (men) for one week.
- Please avoid any heat-inducing activities, including exercise of any kind aside from gentle walking, swimming pools, spas, saunas and tanning for a minimum of 2 weeks.
- No dental work for 4 weeks post-treatment.
- No facials or skin treatments for a minimum of 2 weeks post-treatment. We advise against dermal filler injections for 3 months post-treatment to minimise any cross-reactivity between the products.
- Do not massage the treatment area unless instructed to do so.
Treatment Follow-up
Results from lifting PDO threads may be immediate and typically last for 6 months. In addition, the results will continue to improve in the months following the procedure. Results are best at 3 months post-treatment.
Mono rejuvenating threads will have results at 6 to 8 weeks post-treatment.
Longevity and results depend on individual factors such as the condition of the skin prior to
treatment, the presence of sun damage, adherence to aftercare, metabolism and lifestyle such as smoking. The number of threads used can also impact results and longevity.
It is important to note that a Thread Lift in NO way can deliver a surgical outcome and a surgical facelift may be necessary. The adherence to a treatment plan is also needed for optimal results and may mean re-volumisation with dermal fillers and skin treatments such as laser to ensure a good outcome.
Regular, maintenance treatments are required and essential for long-lasting results.
