Treatments with dermal fillers (hyaluronic acid) are an easy and effective way to enhance the face’s natural beauty. Filler treatments such as lip fillers, cheek enhancement, and tear trough augmentation are some of the UK’s most popular beauty treatments.
What is Dermal Filler Made of?
Semi-permanent fillers are a manmade, non-animal gel that mimics the body’s natural hyaluronic acid, giving safe, long-lasting and natural looking results. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that is found in your body, and any injected amounts will be absorbed into the body after a few months.

- Occasional bruising can occur; it is usually short term and lasts a few days.
Pre-Treatment Instructions:
- For optimal results, and to minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please avoid all blood-thinning medications and supplements for one week prior to your appointment. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and Aleve. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginko biloba, St. John’s Wort and omega-3/fish oil capsules. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your medical provider prior to stopping use of aspirin or other prescribed blood thinning medications.
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages 12 hours before or after your treatment to avoid extra bruising.
- Please consider if you have any upcoming events or pictures in the 2 weeks after your appointment as bruising can occur.
- Please eat something prior to your appointment. Getting light headed is no fun for you or the provider.
- For lip filler patients: Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores around your mouth to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. (Acyclovir 400 mg, twice a day for 3 days before and 3 days after treatment)
- For all filler patients: You must have no sings or symptoms of any active infection including colds, flu, UTIs or any other infective process.
Post-treatment advice
- Avoid wearing make-up for 12 hours post dermal filler injections treatment.
- Avoid extreme temperatures until redness and swelling subsides – no saunas, steam rooms, sun beds or sun exposure,
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours post dermal filler treatment.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours minimum post treatment,
- Avoid manipulation of the treated area.
- No flying in the next 72 hours.
How long do dermal fillers last?
The effects of Dermal Fillers gradually fade, but will last on average between 4-12 months, depending on the treatment area.
When you start to notice the effects of your fillers wear-off you can come back for a top-up treatment. Should you choose not to continue with dermal fillers the gel will biodegrade in the skin and simply disappear with time.
How quickly will I notice filler results?
You will see instant results after your Dermal Filler treatment.
No recovery time is required after dermal filler treatment and you can return to day to day activities straight away.
